MINIs on the Dragon was this past weekend, and we headed out early on Wednesday to make the trip. It is only a couple of hours from our home, but we needed to get there in time to work our shift at registration. We try to do our part to volunteer for the event, but it isn’t a chore. We both enjoy greeting people as they come by to get their name badges and look over the swag. I’ve posted about aspects of this event for the past several years, overview of Fontana Village is on the 2019 ...

So much to chat about today! Get yourself a cuppa, and settle in for a long and picture heavy post. July brings more flowers to the garden, with the apricot gladiolas bursting into bloom this week. I must have two dozen spires with these soft orange flowers dotting the hill behind our home going up the mountain.
They are just beautiful. Each spire has 8 buds, some fully open, some yet to come.
They always bloom at the same time as the hostas. Sometimes I cut some of both for a vase inside. The purple and orange blossoms go well ...
read moreWe’ve had several drives in our beautiful mountains in the past few days. Although the weather is too warm for me in the afternoons, the mornings have been delightful. On this day, we gathered with our Appalachian Mountain MINI group in west Asheville for a nice drive and lunch.
The route took us past lovely pastoral views, with old barns and fields.
With the mountains looming ahead of us, the roads became tree lined and more curvy.
Another barn with two levels was on the right. I didn’t manage to get a photo of the barn quilt block ...
read moreLast weekend, we had a summer fun run with one of our car clubs. This club is primarily old British cars, and the turnout was fantastic. It was apparent that everyone had a serious case of cabin fever.
We met in Etowah, a very small community west of Hendersonville. Yes, those are two yellow Jaguars, and there is a third yellow one in the club that couldn’t make it that day. One of those was a group leader, driven by co-drive leader Dorothy. There will be a show sponsored by the club at the end of September that will ...
read moreWith summer in full swing, car club events are more frequent. We are enjoying our warm days, abundant sunshine and not too hot temps in the mountains. We met early at a visitor center on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a nice drive though some back roads down to South Carolina. There were so many cars for the event, we had to split into three groups! We were in the first group to roll out with the two others following at 15-20 minute intervals.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is green everywhere, with tall trees creating arbors over the road in ...
read moreGetting out with the car clubs again has been a real treat. We are once again meeting new people and enjoying our beautiful world. Last week we were able to participate in a long-planned overnight trip to Abingdon, Virginia with long time blogger friend Mary (who blogs at The Inside Stori) and her husband, plus so many more members with cabin fever that we had to split into three groups for the drive.
Skies were overcast and the threat of rain stayed with us all day. It didn’t take long to get from the meeting point into the curvy ...
read moreLast Sunday was a warm, sunny day, and our MINI club took the opportunity to get together for a drive. We met in Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina, gathering at a local grocery store parking lot. We had about 14 cars to start, and three more joined us on the route.
Once again, we were leading the drive, so pictures of the cars had to be seen in the mirror.
We wound our way around twisty roads and lots of green trees.
By this time, we had 17 cars and it just wasn’t possible to get them all in ...
read moreLast weekend, our British car club had an outing planned. There weren’t any reports of the virus being in our area yet, so we went ahead with it. We practiced our new social distance, and I was using a Asian style bow for a greeting. I find that keeping my hands together reminds me not to hug my friends like I usually do. It is reminiscent of an old habit from the surgical suite of keeping your hands clasped together while waiting for something to be done so you didn’t break your sterile field. For this drive, since ...
